General Motors’ premium brand might use the new full-size rear-wheel drive platform primarily being developed to underpin a new full-size sedan for Cadillac to build a Buick Flagship according to a report from Automobile Magazine.

While there hasn’t been any official confirmation about the plan, GM president Mark Reuss hasn’t been shy about discussing gaps in Buick’s product line. While answering questions about whether or not GM would offer an answer to Ford’s SVT Raptor pickup, Reuss cited more pressing gaps that need attention, including Buick.

Buick’s debut of the Riviera concept in China earlier this year could offer a preview of what could ultimately become the brand’s Cadillac-based flagship.

Thoughts? I think it could certinly help with their image in China, but could this take buyers way from Cadillac in the states? GM has worked so hard to bring life back into the Cadillac brand. Just hope they dont destroy it by bringing competition between brands. I am one of those guys who wished they would of killed Buick over Pontiac. Got rid of the stupid "G" naming code and stuck with Grand Am, Grand Prix, and Bonneville.

Presumably, the new Caddy and Buick would be radically different, with the Cadillac being more performance oriented, while the Buick would be more of a highway cruiser, kind of like the ATS vs. the Regal. Bringing a big soft halo car could pay dividends if they don't try to cannibalize the next Cadillac's sales numbers.
